My Artwork: Tulip Time

April 11, 2021

Tulip season is fast approaching, and in my hometown of Holland, Michigan, that means the Tulip Time Festival is right around the corner.

“Tulip duo” is a painting I did of my favorite color of tulips… pink.

When I found out that I had been chosen to be a part of the Festival’s annual juried art market, I was ecstatic! For the past year, I have been painting in watercolor and acrylic, and have experimented with new styles and designs.

(The global pandemic has been a surprisingly good time to develop my art, becuase it brings me peace and calm unlike any other activity in my life right now).

“Midsummer bouquet” is a painting I did of daisies, peonies, and euphorbia, a bouquet I bought from a local flower grower at the market in June.

I created a number of tulip and spring flower-themed watercolor and acrylic paintings in the past year, which were perfect to enter into the juried competition to be selected for the festival’s artisan market. I look forward to selling both my original artwork at the festival, as well as high quality reproductions of my work.

“Tulip Bouquet” inspired by a fresh bouquet of yellow tulips and the cobalt blue that I saw often in Morocco.

The snowflakes, which at first I confused for tree pollen or tiny petals, melted as soon as they touched the ground. May is a fickle month but luckily everything that blooms here at this time is ok with brief periods of late cold weather. By Friday, it’ll be warm again. 🌸☀️ #spring #springflowers #urbannature

The fiery, fertile season has arrived. May 1st, as The fiery, fertile season has arrived. May 1st, as my mom reminded me, used to be celebrated in my family as May Day, a British tradition likely carried to the U.S. in our family by my maternal great-great grandmother from England. May Day festivities of dancing and gathering flowers have been celebrated in England for over 2000 years. The day was known as Beltane to my Gaelic ancestors from other branches of my family, who celebrated it as the start of the summer season, when sheep would be put out to their summer pastures. Where I live, it marks the day when the leaves begin to crown the trees and the tulips start to bloom. ☀️ Welcome to the season of fire, growth and inspiration! 🌱 #mayday #spring #summer #beltane #celtic
