The snowflakes, which at first I confused for tree pollen or tiny petals, melted as soon as they touched the ground. May is a fickle month but luckily everything that blooms here at this time is ok with brief periods of late cold weather. By Friday, it’ll be warm again. 🌸☀️ #spring #springflowers #urbannature

The fiery, fertile season has arrived. May 1st, as The fiery, fertile season has arrived. May 1st, as my mom reminded me, used to be celebrated in my family as May Day, a British tradition likely carried to the U.S. in our family by my maternal great-great grandmother from England. May Day festivities of dancing and gathering flowers have been celebrated in England for over 2000 years. The day was known as Beltane to my Gaelic ancestors from other branches of my family, who celebrated it as the start of the summer season, when sheep would be put out to their summer pastures. Where I live, it marks the day when the leaves begin to crown the trees and the tulips start to bloom. ☀️ Welcome to the season of fire, growth and inspiration! 🌱 #mayday #spring #summer #beltane #celtic
